The venue for this exciting natural fermentation Indigo workshop led by dyer and embroiderer, Vivien Prideaux,
is the lovingly restored 14th century chateau Etres Aux Anges, offering a practical and comfortable venue, situated on top
of a hill with 360 degree views of the most stunning countryside in the beautiful region of Lot & Garonne in the province
of Aquitaine, France.
Everyone is welcome on this residential course from absolute beginners to those
with much more experience; but only those wishing to work with an open mind and who enjoy learning through discovery will
benefit from this opportunity of an intense period of working in a creative environment where personal development and a feeling
of wellbeing can be achieved.
Vivien, an experienced tutor, who has worked with and studied natural indigo all over the world, will share her knowledge in a structured way, starting with the preparation
of natural materials for dyeing, sample methods of SHIBORI (the inventive art of Japanese shaped resist dyeing), the preparation
and long term maintenance of both a “bio” and “zinc lime” Indigo fermentation vats. These vats have
no unpleasant smell or caustic fumes and yield rich, deep shades of blue and can be maintained ready for use for many months
and are ecologically green.
Each student will receive a basic “work bag’ containing one metre
each of silk, cotton, linen and sewing materials; all other materials and equipment will also be provided. Students are requested
to bring their own sketch books and drawing materials.
